Norway Fish Trade visit

June 18, 2023

Seafood Grimsby & Humber representative Simon Dwyer met the UK's Ambassador to Norway, Jan Thompson, in Oslo to discuss fish and seafood trade from Norway into the Grimsby & Humber cluster.

The Ambassador heard about the importance of sustainable fish and seafood trade supplied by many Norwegian businesses situated predominantly in the far north and west coast of Norway.

Norway sends approximately £600m of seafood products to the region that includes fresh salmon plus fresh and frozen cod and haddock. The cod and haddock is processed and distributed to the UK's major retailers and thousands of fish and chip shops across the country. The salmon is largely processed by Hilton Seafoods and Young's Seafood for their UK retailer clients.

The Ambassador was presented with a #MadeGreatInGrimsby baseball cap by Simon and was joined by Morten Hyldborg-Jensen of major Norway exporter, Insula AS, and DEFRA representatives, Ed Moseley and Colin 'Daisy' May.
