March 08, 2024

Several leading Grimsby based seafood businesses attended the North Atlantic Seafood Forum, Bergen, along with over 900 delegates from across the globe.

The Forum was an opportunity to hear over 100 speakers share their insights into many topics impacting the global seafood sector. Grimsby seafood based speakers were led by keynote speaker, Ash Amirahmadi, CEO of Young's Seafood owner, Sofina Foods (Europe). Other speakers in other related topics included Matt Lee, CEO Hilton Food Group, Andrew Allchurch, Head of Seafood Procurement, Sofina Foods (Europe), Dan Aherne, CEO, New England Seafoods, and Mark Carnaghan, CEO, Eurofins.

The Forum presented an opportunity for Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance and Seafish Industry Authority to showcase the new Seafood Carbon Emissions Calculator Tool. The showcase event was attended by the British Ambassador, Jan Thompson, who met a group of Grimsby's talent pool of Future Leaders, who experienced attending the forum for the first time. The Ambassador held a roundtable discussion with industry executives, Seafish and DEFRA. The Ambassador heard first hand about Norway to Grimsby seafood trade and the engagement The University of Lincoln's National Centre for Food Manufacturing is having with the sectors development on skills and research.

Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance Chairperson, Simon Smith commented "It was great to listen to Ash, Matt and Dan talk in their presentations about the importance of the seafood industry collaborating in a pre-competitive way on matters that support the overall competitiveness of this low-carbon protein. We hope the examples of good working practices we're establishing in the UK can resonate and have an impact on our wider supply chain abroad."
